  • A biokineticist is a healthcare professional who specialises in improving movement, strength, and function after injury, surgery, or chronic conditions. They use evidence-based exercise programmes to help patients recover safely, prevent injuries, and improve overall physical performance.

  • You should see a biokineticist if you:

    • Are recovering from surgery (orthopaedic, sports-related, or joint replacement)

    • Have suffered a sports or musculoskeletal injury

    • Experience chronic pain or stiffness

    • Want to improve strength, mobility, or functional fitness

    • Have been referred by a doctor, physiotherapist, or other healthcare professional

  • Not always. Many patients self-refer for injury prevention, performance improvement, or chronic condition management. However, if you are recovering from surgery or a serious injury, a referral from a doctor or physiotherapist is recommended to ensure safe and coordinated care.

  • Your first session usually includes:

    • A detailed medical and injury history

    • Physical assessment of movement, strength, flexibility, and function

    • Goal-setting and discussion of your personal rehabilitation plan

    • Guidance on safe exercises, which may be supervised or prescribed for home

  • The duration varies depending on:

    • The type and severity of the injury or condition

    • Your overall fitness and recovery goals

    • Whether you’re post-surgery or managing a chronic condition

Most programmes last 4–12 weeks, with regular sessions and progress reviews to ensure you’re meeting your goals safely.

  • Exercises may challenge your muscles or joints, but they should never cause sharp pain or worsen your injury. A biokineticist will adjust exercises to match your ability and progress them safely as you recover.

  • Yes! Biokinetics is suitable for all ages. Programs are customised to the patient’s age, abilities, and health conditions, whether it’s helping a young athlete return to sport or improving mobility and strength in older adults.

    • Physiotherapists focus on immediate pain relief, acute injury management, and joint/muscle treatment.

    • Biokineticists focus on long-term recovery, strengthening, and functional movement, often after physiotherapy or surgery. Many patients see both professionals for a full recovery.

  • Our team works together to assess, rehabilitate, and guide athletes safely back to performance. With Gareth Devine’s background as a professional footballer, we bring valuable first-hand insight into the demands of sport, injury recovery, and return-to-play. Our programs are designed to restore performance safely while reducing the risk of re-injury

  • Progress is measured using functional assessments, strength tests, and movement quality evaluations. Return-to-activity is gradual and guided to ensure your body is ready, helping prevent setbacks or re-injury.
